We went to the Mariposa Grove today to see the giant Sequoias. We went on a ranger led hike and it was really interesting. The trees were enormous and quite impressive! I saw 2 life birds! The Hermit Warbler and the White-headed Woodpecker! I saw and visited with my first birder of the trip.
I just realized that I'm the only person in this loop of the campground and I'm cooking corned beef hash. Hmm... I hope there's no bold, hungry bears around!
After lunch we relaxed at the campground and I birded there. Then at 5:00 PM we drive to the valley to try to get some sunset photos. We bought a few souvenirs at the store. Then we went to Sentinel Bridge where Brad took photos of Half Dome while I birded the area. The dome was lit up beautifully, but our part of the valley floor was quite dark in the shadow of the mountains. We looked over Tunnel View again.
While Brad drives the long, winding road back to the Wawona CG, I write up the blog post for the day.
