Day 16 Birds

At the Mariposa Grove/Sequoias this morning I saw 2 life birds! The Hermit Warbler and the White-headed Woodpecker! They were such a surprise and so neat to see!  I got photos of the White-headed Woodpecker, but not of the Hermit Warbler, but I had some time at the campground to go birding and I found them both there right by our campsite and I managed to get a photo.

After the tour of the Sequoias, we took another trail and I was glassing a bird trying to figure out what it was.  I was thinking it was a Fox Sparrow, when a man came joined us and said that it was a Song Sparrow that is of the California race.  I congratulated him for being the first birder I met on the trip!  Our two couples spent the next half hour or so visiting while hiking the trail.  They were very interesting people.  Later, I found out from my expert birding friend that I was indeed correct on my first guess.  It was a Fox Sparrow, but it looked different to me because it was the Thick-billed {California} Fox Sparrow.
