Day 18 - Our Last Day at Yosemite

The alarm didn't go off this morning, so we slept in until 5:30. We took off for our last morning in Yosemite Valley.  It was cool, quiet and beautiful.  Highlights were the big buck deer that we got good photos of.  Then Brad found me an Acorn Woodpecker in good light for more nice photos.  Then I found a Pileated Woodpecker that I got a nice video of.  The Black Phoebe was fun to watch.

Then we drove to the west entrance called El Portal. The effects of the drought were very evident there with dry, dead grass and trees. Some places had leaves falling. The river was pretty and it was in the mid-90s.  After a picnic we headed up into the mountains via the Tioga Road.  We checked out the Hetch Hetchy reservoir that supplies water to the San Francisco area.

This was not our favorite day due to the heat and so much time in the car, we do enjoy the whole "road trip" experience.  We love listening to music and visiting while out exploring.

We stopped back at Curry Village to shower and once again it was free to shower because no one was there to collect the money.  Brad stopped at Curry Village to order us a pizza, but that turned out to be a bad idea due to the crowds of people he had to wait a long time and waste the good lighting of the evening. The pizza was good though!

We went through the valley one last time. Then at Tunnel View we saw smoke billowing over the mountain and we heard people talking about a big forest fire south of the park. We got a bad feeling because that's where we are camped.  We headed back not knowing if we would be evacuated or not.  It was smoky, but we could stay there.  I felt a little unsettled, but it was nice we could stay there until morning.

Even though this area out of Yosemite is in a severe drought,
there still are some wildflowers around.
We were surprised to see all of these flowers!

These pink plume flowers were beautiful!
El Capitan is so huge!
El Portal is the west entrance to Yosemite.
Common Ravens were common to see.
