Day 17 and 18 Birds

While in McGurk Meadows we kept hearing a loud, clear yelp/whistle. We actually had heard it before on our trip.  I recorded it this time and I knew it had to be a bird, but I didn't know which one until the following day while at a visitor center.  I saw a poster titled, "Birds of the Sierra Nevada Mountains."  I went out to the car to look up that call on my Sibley app. and it was a perfect match!  It was the Mountain Quail!  I wish I could have seen it, but that's the way it is with some birds.

I did see this beautiful Dark-eyed Junco of the Oregon race, which I think is a cool-looking bird.

On Day 18, Brad found me an Acorn Woodpecker with really nice lighting.

The Acorn Woodpecker
Here it is searching for some grub.
I love the markings and colors of this bird.
This is one of my favorite birds of the trip!

Common Ravens were...common.  We saw them often.
They are noisy guys!
